Support for Dell TTI Laptop Computers
(Inspiron 2500) *
Most of the Dells shipped to us were shipped in June of 2001. The computers have a 3 year depot (they pay for overnight shipping) warranty (except the batteries only have a 1 year warranty, which would now be expired).
Remember
when calling for
support get the person's name & number/extension who refused to replace it
if you have any problems, e-mail it to me with the date & time you
called. Always have your important
documents backed up. The most common
solotion erases your hard drive and they won’t wait for you to back up.
Please read below if
you're having any problems with any items in your Dell TTI Laptop computer for
the hardware, battery (no longer covered), software, Internet. The warranty is not insurance, it's for
problems arising from normal use. These
laptops have Norton Anti-Virus on them, the year of updates has expired
(they purchased it in the spring of 2001).
When in doubt call the 888 Dell/Sequoia number below, they should be able
to redirect you to the correct place if they aren't it.
Basically, everything is that 888 Dell/Sequoia number unless it's
a hardware warranty issue.
This is a different help desk than what we use in the district for non-TTI issues.
As part of the program
you agreed to take a follow-up survey within one year. They have mentioned several times that this
needs to be before the end of the school year (even if you haven't had it for a
full year), but the survey is not yet available for the follow-up and no
availability dates are listed.
Help
For any support questions, be sure to have your laptop with you,
they may want to have you try something while you are on the phone. They will always want your service tag
number (from the bottom). Be sure to always record
the date, time and who you spoke to.
Also check to see if they have a trouble ticket (case) number so you can
track it later. The few times I've
called any of these numbers they have been answered very quickly. If you call for help be sure to back up all
your documents before calling (if possible), they may have you erase the hard drive
to get things working.

1-800-234-1490 x69080 for Hardware Service/Repair of your Insperion
Laptop. They'll even help a little with the software but the 888 number should
be called first for software.
Everything needs to be sent to them, we have Depot Service with them for
the TTI laptops. I believe they send
prepaid mailers for everything.
1-888-321-4540 is the TTI Dell/Sequoia Help Desk they should be
able to direct you to anywhere else you need.
Internet Access
I believe all of our laptops were purchased when they were giving
3 years of dial-up Internet access with the laptop. They've changed the length of time several times in the
process. I believe they are measuring
from the time of purchase, not from the time of activation. All of our TTI Laptops were purchased in June/July
of 2001.
Inherited Laptop Internet
Issues
If for some reason you have (inherited) a laptop that the Internet
was set up by a previous teacher (or something along those lines) you can
e-mail Merit and they can reset the account.

Additional Dell Support
Dell support starts with the Knowledge-Base at
http://support.dell.com/ that you should be able to look at yourself if you
don't want to call the support numbers.
* If a Dell Inspiron 2500 Laptop was ordered after May of 2001 and listed
the a TTI quote number (even if it was not purchased with TTI funds. All of the above should be true (except it
may have not come with 3 year Internet access).
