2005 Bond Proposal Includes Fiber
Optic Network
Fiber optic network lines will be installed throughout
the District to increase the District's computer system by 1,000
times. Installation began the second week of September and should
be completed by January 2008, during which time some 10 miles of fiber
optics lines will be installed. The lines will connect the Jan
Jacobs Administrative office with each school in the South Redford
District.
The poles between Centralia and Beech
Daly, and Hemingway and Leverne, along West Chicago, Beech Daly, the
back yards of houses behind Addams and Fisher elementary schools. In
addition a path between Louis, Arnold, Brady, East Deborah, and
Cathedral to reach from West Chicago to Vandenberg Elementary.
Residents of these areas may notice
service crews on poles and service trucks in the neighborhood. Some
service technicians may have to access yards in order to access poles.

Technology Services
The South Redford School District has over one thousand computers. These computers have over ninety different configurations and are updated yearly. They are all connected to each other and the buildings are connected to each other and desktop computers are connected to the Internet. This
department manages the support for computers, the network, televisions and VCRs, the student information system (report cards, progress reports and schedules), reporting to state agencies
and provide training to staff.
Acceptable Use Policy
School districts need to have an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) because of multiple State and Federal rules, regulations and initiatives. Funding for a variety of programs (even non-technology programs) also depends on having such a plan.
No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and FCC - e-rate discounts are just some of the initiatives that require such plans and policies.
