Pierce PTO Sponsors Presentation “Understanding Drug Trends with Youth”

Redford, Michigan - Parents and guardians of South Redford students are invited to attend the presentation “Understanding Drug Trends with Youth” by Leslie Wiemer of the Redford Counseling Center on Monday, March 3, at 6:00 p.m. at Pierce Middle School Cafeteria.

Speaker Leslie Wiemer, LMSW, CPC of Redford Counseling Center and Prevention Coordinator will provide information on types of drugs, effects, signs and patterns of use. In addition,
Ms. Wiemer’s presentation will feature trends, specific effects of drugs, ways to intervene, prevent or off set, age of first use, esteem, confidence and resiliency building.  The presentation
will be held in the Pierce Cafeteria from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with the opportunity for parents and guardians to ask the speaker questions.

The Pierce PTO is sponsoring the presentation in response to requests from parents and guardians who had attended the PTO sponsored presentation last year on Internet Safety.
“The PTO discovered that many parents are interested and need the tools necessary to talk with their children about situations. The parents who had attended last year’s presentation asked that we offer other presentations dealing with pre-teen and teen issues,” comments Allyson Plourde, Pierce PTO president. Some other suggested topics from parents included drug and alcohol substance abuse, gang activity, internet safety and sex.

 Light refreshments will be served.
