Tips for Parent Teacher Conferences

 Before  the conference.
Have I decided on specific questions to ask the teacher? For example, is our child doing as well as expected in reading? Why are certain procedures followed in the classroom? What are the policies regarding homework? What is PDSA?
Review over your child's assignments and tests. Have you used ParentConnection?
Be prepared to answer questions that might be asked about your child's hobbies and interest. Does your child have a special health issue? What study provisions and processes do you at home? Know your child's strengths.
Express interest in the conference with your child. Discuss the conference with your child, note any questions or concerns that he or she might have for the teacher. Ask your child if he or she has questions or concerns about the conference.
After the conference
Note the important points of the conference.
Share the results of the conference with your child.
Work with your child and design a definite action plan that will promote improved academic growth for your child.
  Sign on to ParentConnection.
Feel free to arrange additional conferences with the teacher.

What is ParentConnection?

As part of the South Redford School District's on-going effort to improve communication between parents and our schools ParentConnection was implemented. ParentConnection service provides parents with direct access to student data via the Internet. Using a confidential login and password, parents can connect to the school district's student database using a web browser and view their child's data, such as progress reports, attendance records, report cards, transcripts, and more.

How do I obtain a password and logon ID for ParentConnection?

All parents must have a logon password and id to logon to view their child's data. If you do not have a password and id
you must go to your child's school in person and show your driver's license or id to receive your password and id. This procedure is in place to keep all students' information private and confidential.

When is information updated on ParentConnection?

Information is "live", which means you will see changes immediately after a change is made to your student's data (attendance, grades, assignments, lunch, etc.). Report cards and progress reports are not "live", they will not be available until they are compiled and we publish them to the web (generally several days after the end of the marking period).

Not all types of information are available at all levels. The different types of information that you can view include:
