Over 500 people attended the FREE Multicultural Festival sponsored by the Commission on Children's Issues and Botsford Hospital & Botsford Medical Center of Redford Township on Friday, February 27, 2009. The event was held at the William F. Weber Performing Arts Center at Thurston High School.  See Power Point photos of event -  slide show will automatically advance after 9 seconds per slide.

The first community Multicultural Festival was a huge success! The event featured the cultural highlights of over 65 countries.   Participants toured the world as they walked through the halls of Thurston and learning about the different countries and cultures. In addition, Multicultural Festival offered a variety of ethnic food samples.  Entertainment for the evening included six different performances highlighting diverse cultures from Native American Cherokee Dancer, Thurston High School STEP Team, Croatian Dance Group: "Nova Nada" and more. The event provided something for everyone .

Thank you to all of the Thurston teachers and students, community volunteers and Commission on Children's Issues for collaborating on this special event. The evening was a big success and we look forward to the next Multicultural Festival.

Background
Redford Township is a residential community in the north central part of Wayne County, Michigan's most populous county. Redford gets its name from “Rouge Ford” that was the local crossing place on the Rouge River.

There are many restaurants and retail stores located within the community. Redford is connected to the surrounding area by major east-west and north-south roads, Telegraph Road and Interstate 96. The Redford industrial base is anchored by the Detroit Diesel Corporation.

Redford's Parks and Recreation Department provides leisure and recreation programs that are open and accessible to all residents. There are eight community parks that have baseball diamonds, tennis courts, soccer fields and picnic and playground areas. Summer fare includes a free Concert In The Park Series.
