FUNDING PROBLEMS LOOM -
School districts across the state will be faced with making financial reductions that will negatively affect students in a time when expectations of schools continues to increase and revenues continue to decrease. South Redford School District is not immune to the loss of funding. If there is a proration reduction to our state aid allowance, our District may be forced, even at this late date, to make budget cuts resulting in loss of services to our students. Decisions are not final on future cuts and many surrounding districts are planning to make layoffs.

Even if the nothing changes in Lansing the estimated shortage for South Redford School District will be $2,000,000 in the 2007 -2008 school year. Dr. Weber comments, "We can make up some of that money in a number of ways, but when close to 87%- 88% of our budget is personnel related it means that there will have to be some overall changes in the number of people who are employed in the District."

At the Regular Board of Education meeting of Monday, March 12,  Dr. Weber presented possible money saving estimated reductions in the custodial department, busing routes and professional staff member layoffs.
