April 2006  Bond Dollars at Work - -

As of April 3, 2006,  Thurston's back gate was closed to all traffic, except construction vehicles. This change provided the construction crews to access the athletic field with the large equipment and earthmovers to begin renovations.  During Spring Break, the front lobby and auditorium at Thurston were dismantled, heating and cooling pipes were redesigned, network cable rerouted, and walls erected.
Students and staff returning from the break found the temporary changes and were rerouted through the hallways to reach classrooms and offices.

Parking at Thurston became a premium when the west parking lot (next to band room) was closed along with the back parking lot.  In  additional 12 parking spaces in the front parking lot were closed to student use, parking tickets were being issued to student enforce the change. As with any construction area people should expect some delays. Students should plan for the delays and add extra travel time to school and getting to class on time.

- July 2005 Design Discussions

Some improvements the District has made include: new roofs at Vandenberg, Thurston and Shear. Soil borings for the new gymnasium, Performing Arts Center and Athletic field. The Architects presented new schematic drawings at the July 11, Board of Education meeting. We anticipate being able to bid on construction projects in February 2006 and we'll begin construction in June of 2006 with completion in 2007.

This school year, we're planning on installing many data projectors at various sites and to replace many printers throughout the District. All computers in the District are scheduled to be replaced in the summer of 2006. We've also been meeting with representatives of DTE Energy to determine where and when we can begin the installation of fiber-optic cable throughout the District.

Architects will present plans and sketches for work that will be done at the middle and elementary schools at the September 12, 2005, Board of Education meeting. It is anticipated that work will begin on the artificial turf and on the athletic complex in late March or early April of 2006. It will be ready for use at the beginning of August 2006. The new athletic complex building will house concessions, restrooms, and team rooms. Additional parking is also scheduled for completion in August of 2006.
