Dedication and Celebration of the
Dr. William F. Weber Performing Arts Center

Redford, Michigan - On Thursday, May 1, the South Redford School District formally dedicated the William F. Weber Performing Arts Center.  Dr. William F. Weber, former Superintendent began the dedication ceremony with the ribbon cutting.  “Naming the new Performing Arts Center in honor of Dr. Weber was not hard to do because he is such an honorable man,” said Linda Hicks, Superintendent.

The William F. Weber Performing Arts Center has an expansive lobby, which features a ticket box office, concession area and a
52-inch monitor that provides a view of the stage from the lobby. The new auditorium houses complex lighting and sound systems and a stage complete with an orchestra pit that would dwarf the old auditorium. The Dedication Ceremony was a spectacular début of the William F. Weber Performing Arts Center, which featured the artistic talents of our students from across all building levels.

Bill Weber retired in May 2007 after 44 years of dedication and service to South Redford School District.   Dr. Weber’s remarks during the ceremony provided the audience a better understanding of his commitment to educational excellence and his sense of humor, which was evident as he shared what he has been doing since his retirement.

The Performing Arts Center is a longtime dream come true for many parents, staff and residents and it was Dr. Weber’s vision, guidance, and leadership that helped the dream come true. The successful passing of the 2005 Bond was the third time the district sought taxpayer support to improve the auditorium.  Dr. Weber campaigned with a clear vision that families of South Redford deserve a state-of-the art theater that is equivalent to the talent and abilities of their children.  The community has anticipated the auditorium for years and many parents and residents in the audience were brought to tears at the sight and sounds of the performances.

Some will say Dr. Weber’s legacy is the William F. Weber Performing Arts Center, a 700-seat auditorium that features state-of-the-art lighting, acoustics and a professional stage with an orchestra pit, dressing room and scene shops.  His name is on the building; however, his legacy is more than brick and mortar. It is a dedicated spirit and unwavering belief in the capabilities of helping all of our children build their future by providing outstanding educational opportunities.  South Redford will continue Dr. Weber’s legacy by Building Brighter Futures.

Kudos to Bill Zolkowski, Thurston principal and Master of Ceremonies for the event.  Bill did a splendid job introducing our Township and community dignitaries. He kept the celebration rolling with his upbeat humor and theatrical professionalism while highlighting our students.  A very special thank you to everyone who volunteered his or her time, talents and efforts in organizing this monumental event.
