Elected in 1999 Laurie is beginning her eleventh year on the Board. Laurie was appointed  the Board President for the 2009 - 2010 school year. Laurie has lived in Redford for 44 years. Laurie and her husband Terry have three children, three children are Thurston graduates, one of which is a graduate of Pennsylvania Culinary Arts; their youngest child attends Thurston. All three children have attended South Redford Schools.      BIO: Hicks

Mrs. Laurie Hicks is assigned to following committees for the 2009 - 2010 school year: Board Annual Performance Evaluation, Review of Orientation and Policy Manuals Superintendent's Evaluation, Budget (Finance), Board liaison for MASB,  NSBA, WCASB, Federal Legislative Relations Network, (FRN) and South Redford Pre-Kindergarten. 

Adopted school for 2009 -2010 school year, Addams ElementaryTerm expires 2011. 

Tom Dowdy, Vice President                                                                                      dowdto09@southredford.net
Mr. Dowdy was re-elected in the May 2009 School Board election and is now serving the first year of his second term. At the July 2009 Organizational meeting Mr. Dowdy was appointed to the position of  Board Vice President for the 2009-2010 school year. Tom sought a position to make a difference in the school and community. Tom is an alumni of Thurston High School and an active community member. 
Mr. Dowdy is assigned the following committees for the 2009 -2010 school year: Review of Orientation and Policy Manuals, Superintendent's Evaluation, and School Based Health Center. 

Adopted school for 2009 - 2010 school year, Jefferson Elementary. Term expires 2013. 
 

Cheryl Flesher, Treasurer                                                                                      flesch09@southredford.net
Ms. Flesher was re-elected for second term in the 2008 May election. Cheryl is a widow with four children and a 22-year resident of the South Redford. Three of Cheryl's children are graduates of Thurston High School, two children are college graduates one from U of M and one from Madonna University. Cheryl's third child attends Michigan University, Ann Arbor and, her youngest child is a student at Thurston High School.                                                                BIO: Flesher

Ms. Cheryl Flesher is assigned to the following committees for the 2009-2010 school year: Review of Orientation and Policy Manuals, Superintendent's Evaluation, South Redford Foundation for  Educational Excellence,  Superintendent Evaluation, Food Service, Wellness, Budget (Finance), Board liaison for NSBA, Federal Legislative Relations Network, (FRN) and
South Redford Pre-Kindergarten, Sex Education, and School Based Health Center.

Adopted school for the 2009 - 2010 school year, Shear Early Childhood Center / Student Services. Term expires 2012.

Mr. Mazurowski was re-elected to serve a second term in the May 2009 election.  Reappointed to the position of Board Secretary for the 2009 - 2010 school year.  B A 37-year Redford resident Bruce is a Thurston graduate, class of 1979. Bruce and his wife Nadine, have two daughters, one is a graduate of Thurston and the other attends Thurston.  BIO: Mazurowski

Bruce Mazurowski is assigned to the following committees for the 2009-2010 school year: is Review of Orientation and Policy Manuals, Superintendent's Evaluation, Board Annual Performance Evaluation, and Technology.

Greg is currently serving his fourth year as a Board Trustee.
Gregory Van Morgan is an active parent who has coached basketball and participated in many Redford Community events. Gregory sought a seat on the South Redford School Board of Education in the May 2006 election. Greg's goal is to make a positive difference in the education of all children.

Mr. Morgan is assigned to the following committees for the 2009-2010 school year: Review of Orientation and Policy Manuals, Superintendent's Evaluation, South Redford Foundation for  Educational Excellence,  Food Service, Sex Education, and Wellness. 

Adopted school fro the 2009 - 2010 school year,  Fisher Elementary. Term expires 2010

Steve Baker was appointed to the South Redford School District Board of Education at the Special Board meeting of Monday, April 28, 2008, to fill Mr. Tom Burnosky's seat on the Board until the next election in May 2009. Mr. Baker won his seat in the May 2009 election and will serve on the Board for the remainder of Mr. Burnosky's term.   Steve and his wife Michelle have been residents of South Redford for 12 years. They have three children. One is a graduate from Thurston High School.   

Steve Baker is assigned to the following committees for the 2009-2010 school year: Review of Orientation and Policy Manuals, Superintendent's Evaluation, Sex Education, School Based Health Center, and Technology.

 Adopted school for the 2009 - 2010 school year,  Vandenberg Elementary.  Term expires 2011

Elizabeth Kangas was elected to the Board of Education in the May 2008, election.  She is an active community member and is married and has eight children. 

Mrs. Kangas  is s assigned to the following committees for the 2009-2010 school year: Review of Orientation and Policy Manuals, Superintendent's Evaluation, Food Service, Budget (Finance), Wellness, Food Service, and Liaison to MASB.

Adopted school for the 2009-2010 school year, Thurston High School.  Term expires 2012

Board Goals
Goal 1:
Working together with the community to build a positive relationship with the community as measured by the level of satisfaction with Board performance.

Goal 2:
Working together with the Administrative Team the Board will model a partnership that fosters mutual respect and collaboration as measured through bi-annual assessments.
Goal 3:
Provide an environment to maximize growth, citizenship and academic achievement to become a high performing Board as measured by the System Check Level III.
