Laurie A. Hicks, President                                           hickla09@southredford.net
Elected in 1999 Laurie is beginning her tenth year on the Board. Laurie was elected as the Board President for the 2008 - 2009 school year. Laurie has lived in Redford for 43 years. Laurie and her husband Terry have three children, two children are Thurston graduates, one of which is a graduate of Pennsylvania Culinary Arts; their youngest child attends Thurston. All three children have attended South Redford Schools for their entire educational experience.

Committee to review the format for Superintendent Evaluation, Committee to review the Board Policy Manual

Laurie Hicks is appointed Board liaison for MASB, NSBA, WCASB, Federal Relations Network, (FRN) and
South Redford Pre-Kindergarten.
Adopted school Pierce Middle School.

Tom Dowdy, Vice President                                           dowdto09@southredford.net
Tom is serving his fourth year in his first term and was elected to serve as the Board Vice President for the 2008 - 2009 school year. Tom sought a position to make a difference in the school and community. Tom is an alumni of Thurston High School and an active community member.  Term expires 06/30/2009

 Cheryl Flesher, Treasurer         flesch09@southredford.net
Cheryl was elected in 2004 and was re-elected to serve a second term on May 6, 2008. Cheryl is a 21-year resident of South Redford School District. She a widow with four children. Three of Cheryl's oldest children are alumnus of Thurston, one graduated from U of M in Engineering, one attends Madonna University and the other attends Michigan University, Ann Arbor. Cheryl's younger child is a student at Thurston.  Term expires 6/30/2012  BIO: Cheryl Flesher

Goal 1:
Working together with the community to build a positive relationship with the community as measured by the level of satisfaction with Board performance.

Goal 2:
Working together with the Administrative Team the Board will model a partnership that fosters mutual respect and collaboration as measured through bi-annual assessments.
Goal 3:
Provide an environment to maximize growth, citizenship and academic achievement to become a high performing Board as measured by the System Check Level III.

Bruce Mazurowski, Secretary     mazubr09@southredford.net
Bruce was elected to the South Redford Board of Education in 2005. Bruce was elected to serve as the Board Secretary for the 2008 - 2009 school year.  A 37 year Redford resident Bruce is a Thurston graduate, class of 1979. Bruce and his wife Nadine, have two daughters, one is a graduate of Thurston and the other attends South Redford Schools. Term expires 6/30/2009

As the Secretary of the Board, Bruce Mazurowski is responsible to assign a person responsible to post public meetings. Bruce assigned Connie Marshall, Secretary to the Superintendent to post the meetings.Adopted school: Thurston High School.

Gregory Van Morgan, Trustee    morggr09@southredford.net
Greg is currently serving his third year as a Board Trustee.
Gregory Van Morgan is an active parent who has coached basketball and participated in many Redford Community events. Gregory sought a seat on the South Redford School Board of Education in the May 2006 election. Greg's goal is to make a positive difference in the education of all children. Term expires  06/30/2010 Adopted school:
Shear Student Services.

 

Steve Baker, Trustee          bakest09@southredford.net
Steve Baker was appointed to the South Redford School District Board of Education at the Special Board meeting of
Monday, April 28, 2008. His seat will be open for election at the first election following his appointment, which is May 5, 2009.  Steve and his wife Michelle have been residents of South Redford for 11 years. They have three children one at Pierce Middle School and two at Thurston High School.  
Appointment expires 06/30/2009

Congratulations to Elizabeth Kangas, on being elected to the Board of Education at the May 6 2008 election. Elizabeth began serving her
four-year term at the July 14, 2008, Board meeting. Term expires 06/30/2012
