Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence

A Process for Improvement
South Redford School District implemented the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence in 2001. Performance excellence is the result of a practical way of getting better and knowing that you have improved. The Baldrige process is built on the belief that all students can learn, all students will be successful, and all students want to learn.

At the October 10, 2005, South Redford Board of Education the South Redford School District became the first school district in Michigan and the fifth district in the Nation to receive the District Accreditation from North Central Accreditation using the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence.

The Baldrige process begins with effectively communicating the expectation of success to students. Once the expectations are clearly understood, students discuss the goals and write a class mission statement. Students are taught to record their data and measure their progress, to create their own personal goals, and to reach the classroom goals.

South Redford uses the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence to:
  •       Obtain NCA District Accreditation
  •       Enhance classroom learning systems by applying the improvement cycle
  •       Continually improve processes and results
  •       Align all parts of the educational system
  •       Improve student achievement
The Baldrige model is a nationally recognized program aimed at continuously improving staff and student performance.

Plus  & Delta
Recommendations for improvement are recorded under the delta category and observation of best practices used in the process are recorded under the plus category. This evaluation process provides the opportunity for participants to voice valuable feedback regarding the process and make improvements.
